  The Journal
The annual Journal of the Historical Society of South Australia was first published in 1975. In 1978 and 1980 two issues were published.
Membership of the Historical Society includes a copy of that year's Journal.

Contributions
The Journal of the Historical Society of South Australia accepts contributions on historical subjects relating to South Australia or Australia. These may take the form of research articles, conference addresses, short research notes, photographic essays or occasional pieces. Book reviews are commissioned by the Editor.

Intending authors should download the following documents. Information for Authors sets out how articles should be submitted and provides a writing Style Guide. Author's Information and Agreement serves three purposes: (1) you use it to provide basic contact information, (2) you provide formal permission to the Society to publish your paper, and (3) you assign any royalty payments generated by people downloading your article from the RMIT site (see below) to the Society. The reason that we ask you to do this is that the cost of forwarding any payments received are far in excess of the amounts actually generated (only a few dollars).
Please include a copy of this agreement when you submit your article to the Editor.

     Author's Information and Agreement

Correspondence for 2017 should be directed to the Editor, Professor Philip Payton, School of History and International Relations, Flinders University, GPO Box 2100, Adelaide, 5001, or forwarded by email to philip.payton@flinders.edu.au.

Articles submitted for academic assessment are refereed, but the final decision on publication rests with the Editor. The Historical Society of South Australia gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the peer reviewers.

Previous Issues
Links to the Tables of Contents for recent issues and a Subject Index for Journals 1 to 42 are given in the column to the right. The Subject Index contains bookmarks to take you to each subject heading. The text can also be searched for key words: use Find or Search in the Edit menu. To use these functions, you need to download a copy of the PDF onto your own computer.

Copies of the current and some previous Journals are available for $35 including postage. Please go to the Resources page for more information. Some back issues are available from Michael Treloar Antiquarian Booksellers, 196 North Terrace Adelaide. Email or phone them with your request.

Since the first issue in 1975 all essays were indexed in the Australian Public Affairs Information Service (APAIS). APAIS was maintained by the National Library of Australia and closed in December 2013. It is now available from RMIT Publishing as Informit APAFT (Australian Public Affairs Full Text). Follow this link.

Full texts of articles from Journal No 22 (1994) to Journal No 43 (2015) are available online from RMIT Publishing as PDFs. There is a charge of $3.98 for each article payable to RMIT. Follow this link and choose the issue of interest or use the SEARCH function at the top of the Informit page.
